Sustainability vs. High Value Crops
1h 6m
This presentation discusses the growing operations and maintenance of high value greenhouse crops, like annual flowers, vegetables, and hemp. Many landscapers select their annuals and other flowers based on cost or relationships. Rarely are the practices and procedures of the grower considered. In some cases, the growing methods are in direct conflict with sustainability and environmental awareness. Best Management Practices will be reviewed through the lenses of ecological responsibility and efficiency. Topics include: pesticide and fungicide remediation, water use and reclamation, alternative energy options for greenhouse grown plants, and adjusting client's expectation for new plantings. William will address how the growers can be more sustainable, how landscapers and designers can support sustainable growers, and how to educate clients to favor more sustainably grown plants.
